HLTAID012 is the first aid unit for education and care settings. It covers the same ground as the general workplace certificate and adds content specific to working with infants and children, and it includes HLTAID011 and HLTAID009 within it. If you work in a preschool, long day care, family day care or school setting, this is usually the one specified.
First aid in an education and care setting: infant and child CPR technique, asthma and anaphylaxis management, and the injuries and illnesses that come up with young children. With us it runs 3.5 hours, against 3 hours for the general HLTAID011 unit.
Because HLTAID012 includes HLTAID011 and HLTAID009, holding it also covers you for general workplace first aid. Holding HLTAID011 does not work the other way round.
Course names vary between providers — "childcare first aid", "first aid in education and care", "paediatric first aid" all get used. The unit code does not. If your employer or your service approval requires HLTAID012, ask for the code and check it appears on the statement of attainment you receive.
The specific requirement for your service comes from your employer and the relevant regulator, not from us, so confirm it with them before booking.
First aid is generally treated as current for three years and CPR annually, which means a centre that trained all its educators together will see them all lapse together. Staggering training across two or three dates avoids a scramble and keeps qualified staff on the floor throughout.
New educators can then join the nearest session rather than prompting a whole-centre rebooking.
Our venue is Miller Noyce House, Suite 2, Level 2, 45–47 Hunter Street, in central Hornsby — a short walk from Hornsby station with Westfield Hornsby parking nearby. Educators come in from Waitara, Asquith, Thornleigh, Normanhurst, Pennant Hills, Wahroonga, Berowra, Epping and Castle Hill.
Complete the short online component beforehand, attend one practical session, and the statement of attainment is issued the same day. You will need a Unique Student Identifier first, which is free and one-off.
Yes — "childcare first aid" is the common name for HLTAID012, first aid in an education and care setting. Check the unit code rather than the course name.
